Bumps and Bruises, Oh My!

So we all went to the park yesterday and my son recently got the hang of riding his bike with no training wheels was riding like the wind all grins and so proud of himself when the joy was broken by a crash and a scream. It broke my heart to see him on the ground and Lord knows I didn't want to see the outcome of the fall, I was just praying nothing was broken. And as my husband and I ran toward him, me with daughter in hand as he raised his head the blood made it look worse than it was, thank God no stitches were required.
"I'm never riding again", " I shouldn't have come were the things my son said when he settled on the ride home from the incident. We tried to encourage him to ride again, that when you fall you get up again and it's all part of life. But how do you really console a child when they feel betrayed by gravity. The number of bumps and bruises and cuts we've been through since he's been born, well we've lost count but it's part of life especially with boys who think they're Spiderman. Children under 5 are so brave and hopeful and the sky's the limit, it's sad when that's broken.
Well it's a new day and his spirits are back and he was on his bike again riding around the house, swollen lip and all. He's such a trooper. You may not be able to remember every bump and bruise but you do remember the most traumatic.
When any child falls I see the moms face look like they fell too. It's hard to see them suffer but you know you have to put on a brave encouraging face so they don't freak out more than they already are.
